Working with local churches and near-by Moorlands Bible College, we have recently
created an apprenticeship-type scheme that we call our “Youthwork Training Programme”.
This programme offers an exciting, rewarding way to work and train alongside the
Isle of Wight YFC team over a three-year period whilst earning a JNC endorsed, accredited
degree (BA Hons) in Applied Theology and Youth & Community Work.
At present, we have just one placement on the Island, a Brighstone-based project
for which we recruited a YTP youthworker in September 2010. However, we are actively
looking to find more placement projects and churches to recruit workers for this
coming September (2011). Anyone interested should look though the documents linked
above, then contact Dave Burton to discuss the way forward.
For students...
The programme is a cost-effective way of earning a professional qualification in
Christian Youthwork, and a great way of gaining new life experiences, learning “on
the job” as a part-time student, part-time youthworker...all the while supported
and mentored by the Isle of Wight YFC team.
For churches...
The programme offers a cost-effective way of recruiting a committed, energetic, trainee
youthworker to support and develop the church's youthwork activities whilst giving
time to mentoring and discipling local teenagers...a worker with a long-term, three-year
commitment, supported by the wider work and personnel of IW Youth For Christ.
